What are some acceptable Marine Corps haircuts for men?

I was just reading the guidelines and I'm a little confused. From what I'm reading is it true that you HAVE to have that ';high and tight'; haircut?

I thought you could have a more typical haircut as long as it was short and conservative.

Can you just shave your head? I'd rather shave it all of than have to wear a high and tight. What are some acceptable Marine Corps haircuts for men?
As have serving in the Marine Corps myself I can tell you that yes the High and Tight is the traditional cut of the USMC. It's so traditional that they don't even allow USMC Recruits to wear this cut they have to have 0 inches at all times.

The principle of the High and Tight is to have 0 inches on the side and 1-3 inches on top depending on rank. As you progress in rank you are allowed to have yourself bald as I have seen one of my former NCO's running around being bald. Also if you wish or grow a mustache, but being a Marine and having a mustache are 2 complete concepts as the Core believes that all Marines should be clean shaven at all times for professionalism.

Remember the guidelines for the Marine Corps is going to be more ridiculous than any other branch for this reason and this reason only. The United States needs an Army, Air Force, and Navy, but they do not what so ever need a Marine Core. The reason why our country has a Marine Corps is because the citizens of our great nation WANTS a Marine Core. And because our country has had Marines dating back to the beginning of our country as old as the National Guard which was the first Army for this country during the Revolutionary War. Sorry Alexi....You do have some great info and most of it is correct. But I can not take you serious when you talk about the Marines and use 'core' instead of Corps. Every Marine knows that the word Marine is always capitalized and it is never 'the core' and is always 'the Corps'.

As long as the hair is tapered from zero to three inches. Beginning from the ears and bottom of the neck to the top of the head it is regulation. You can shave your head bald if that is the way you want to roll, but I prefer a high regulation, to the high and tight.
basically, it is all shaved off. a 1 all round should give you the right idea.

it stops the spread of parasites like nits and it makes everybody look smart and together

if you don't have it shaved, the marine barber will shave it at the start of your training
Officially: Any short and neat haircut (after boot camp) is acceptable.

Unofficially (and realistically): High and tight and bald are the only two acceptable haircuts.
High and tight means 1/4 in above earline and 1/4 in off head. Or just shave it all off. It prevents the spread of lice and gives every one a uniform look
i dont think u hav to hav it high and tight. my brother in law is in the marine corp and he always gets a 1 around his whole head
I'm sure you can shave it 'cause I'm sure they have bald people...
Bald,High and tigh,buzz cut,butch cut,shaved.
Don't worry. Your GSGT wil make sure your haircut is up to specs or your fellow Marines will kick your a**.
